SOLUS is a Prague-based interest association of legal entities. Its name is made up of the initial letters of its original name - SdruženĂ na Ochranu Leasingu a Úvěrů Spotřebitelům (the Association for the Protection of Leasing and Consumer Credit) – which is also the best description of its chief aim. Over time SOLUS has expanded the scope of its activities to include services for not only consumers but also entrepreneurs and corporations. The name SOLUS has, however, been preserved for historical reasons.
The idea of creating a SOLUS association first came under serious consideration in autumn of 1998. After several months' work of a preparation committee, SOLUS was registered on 18 June 1999 and began operating.
As part of the so-called responsible credit provision, the SOLUS association actively contributes to the prevention of clients becoming overdebted or of an increase in the number of defaulting clients, improves the collectibility of existing overdue debts and reduces potential financial losses of creditors.
SOLUS maintains two negative registers of client information, which collect information on clients who have difficulty in repaying their liabilities to any of the members of the SOLUS Association. These are the Register of consumers (natural persons register) where natural persons (consumers) are included, and the Register of entrepreneurs and legal entities (entrepreneur register) where natural person entrepreneurs and corporations are included.
