How to proceed if you are involved in a road accident?

A road accident – not a total loss
  • You are supposed to report an accident to the police if the damage exceeds CZK 100,000 or if those involved in the accident can't agree on who is the culprit of the accident
  • It's important to report a road accident to the insurer and the leasing company
  • Under the General Terms you are authorized to fully handle any insured event i.e. to report an insured event to the insurer and arrange with the respective insurer's claims adjuster to examine the damaged vehicle
  • the insurer's claims adjuster will take photos of the damaged vehicle and produce a report. On no account can you repair the vehicle before it has been examined by a claims adjuster!
What will the insurer require?
  • A completed road accident questionnaire
  • An examination of the vehicle by a claims adjuster
  • A police report in the event of a major accident
The insurer may contact you later on and require further necessary documents such as the invoice for the vehicle's repairs, a copy of the large technical certificate, a copy of the driving licence.

What will the leasing company require?
  • The serial number of the vehicle's lease or loan agreement
  • The date the accident occured
  • A copy of the insurer's completed questionnaire
  • An estimate of the cost of the vehicle's repairs
Total destruction of the vehicle (a total loss)
  • The decision that an insured event is to be adjusted as a total loss is made by the insurer
  • You have the obligation to report a road accident to the police, leasing company and insurer as in the case above
  • The insurer will send the leasing company a certificate stating that the vehicle's accident is settled as a total loss and based on such certificate the leasing company will terminate the lease or loan agreement. From that moment, your obligation to pay installments will cease.
Theft of the vehicle
  • The same procedure as above, i.e. you have the obligation to report such incident to the police, leasing company and insurer
  • The lease or loan agreement is terminated on the basis of a police decision.
